KRISTINE GRENE Beloved wife of Jorgen Grene passed away at her home in Orinda on May 20, 2003 after a two-year battle against cancer. Born and raised in Oakland, Kristine was the daughter of Thora and Peder Sorensen, who had emigrated from Denmark. Kristine went to local high schools in Oakland and later to Armstrong Business College. Subsequently, she became a civilian employee of the U.S. Air Force in Heidelberg and in 1953, was transferred to the American Embassy in Copenhagen. Shortly after her engagement to Jorgen Grene, a marriage followed in 1954 in Denmark, where the couple lived until 1955, when they settled in California. In 1959, the couple moved to Orinda, where they have lived since. After settling in California, Kristine worked as a legal secretary in both Oakland and San Francisco law firms until her retirement 10 years ago. In retirement, Kristine and her husband enjoyed spending time in their Orinda home and working in their garden, with Kristine being most happy in the garden with flowers and animals. Kristine is survived by her husband Jorgen of 49 years; brother, Pete Sorensen of Piedmont; nephew, Scott Sorensen of Piedmont and nieces, Lisa Troastle of Rapid City, South Dakota, and Kathy Sorensen of Lafayette; and 5 grandnieces and 2 grandnephews. Friends and family are invited to attend a funeral service at Grant Miller - John Cox Mortuary, 2850 Telegraph Avenue in Oakland, at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, May 28, 2003.
